What to post on X and TikTok as an indie dev each week
A simple, repeatable weekly posting plan for indie game developers on X, TikTok/Shorts, and Reddit, built from the work you're already doing.
Start from what you already made
You don't need new content every day. Each week you already produce something: a feature, a bug fix, a new enemy, a UI pass. A weekly plan just turns that one update into several posts for different platforms.
A sample week on X
Monday: the headline change of the week, with a short clip.
Tuesday: before/after, or month 1 vs. now.
Wednesday: a question or poll your players can answer in one word.
Thursday: a small dev detail you love (a sound, an animation, a design decision).
Friday: a clear call to action, like wishlisting, joining the Discord, or playing the demo.
Saturday: #screenshotsaturday with your best image or GIF of the week.
Short video (TikTok / YouTube Shorts)
Aim for one to three short videos a week. Structure each one as hook, beat, payoff:
Hook (first 1–3 seconds): a surprising visual or a line like "I added fog to my game and regretted it."
Beat: show the thing working (or failing).
Payoff: the satisfying moment, then your game's name.
Formats that suit indie games: before/after, "rating my game's X", failure compilations, "day 1 vs. day 100", and explaining one mechanic.
Reddit, carefully
Each subreddit has its own self-promotion rules. Read them before posting. Share something interesting (a story, a GIF, a design question) rather than a bare store link, and engage in the comments.
Keep it sustainable
Batch-write the week's posts in one sitting.
Reuse clips across platforms with platform-specific captions.
Track what gets replies and do more of that.
Consistency matters more than any single post going viral.
